I think that is a narrow view of what homeschooling can be. My parents weren't great at it but I was a long term member of a choir, I had music and dance lessons at various times in my childhood, and I did karate for a time. I actually think that those types of extracurricular activities (as they increasingly are in schools) are where homeschooling offers more flexibility and opportunity. Also, I was home educated and I hold a PhD, have run half marathons, and have performed as a singer. So while I think that there downsides to home education that should be talked about, if you exclude home educated students from your lab then you are potentially missing out (also you may be subject to discrimination lawsuits! )
