Ouch! I'm sorry to hear that. I am guessing you are in the States? It sounds like a tough start.

Oddly, here in the UK we don't have separation of church and state so in theory every non-denominational school is a Church of England school. But the reality is that most state schools teach religions not religion - so they tend to teach about lots of different faiths, and also to celebrate lots of different faith days. We do get a few Jesus based songs around Christmas - but that's about it.
