This is one of the more interesting articles on writing I've read on here. I read quite a few when I first joined and was trying to figure out how it worked. It quickly became apparent that there is a sort of sub medium culture that is all about churning out how too guides in the name of helping others succeed. It's almost funny when you look at the follower counts of some of these 'experts'. It's like a snake eating it's tail.

I avoid them now. But this was different. I really liked what you said about self competition. I used to be so motivated in that way. Then I had kids and just got too tired. Now they are 5 and nearly 2 I feel like I'm slowly reigniting that part of me and it's a lot of fun
